Living a Healthier Lifestyle, One Choice at a Time

Last updated 11 months ago

For many people, trying to live a healthier lifestyle can feel like an insurmountable challenge. Between hectic schedules and multiple responsibilities, simply finding time for physical activity and a well-balanced meal may already feel like more than you can handle. Leading a healthy life, though, can be quite simple when approached one step and choice at a time. If you are interested in learning some helpful tips for enhancing your health, consult with your primary care physician and read through the list below:

  • Eat a Nutritious Breakfast: Your mom was right when she said breakfast was the most important meal of the deal. A wholesome breakfast will help to jumpstart your metabolism each morning and to keep you full longer. Instead of reaching for sugary, less-nutritious breakfast options, eat a breakfast rich in whole grains, fiber, and lean proteins like eggs.
  • Park Further Away: It becomes easier to fit exercise into your busy routine when you integrate it into your daily activities. When pulling into work or running errands, for example, pick a parking spot that is further away from the door to add extra walking into your day.
  • Take the Stairs: Another easy way to incorporate exercise into your day is by taking the stairs. By foregoing the elevator, you can help to burn calories, build muscle and boost cardiovascular health, all of which promote a healthier heart and body.
  • Make Smarter Meal Choices: Losing or maintaining a healthy weight does not necessarily require a very restricted diet. Instead, make healthier choices with a focus on green, leafy vegetables; lean meats like poultry and fish; whole grains and nuts. Substitute high-fat options with leaner foods, and avoid foods that are processed, high in sodium or contain that large amounts of saturated or trans fats.

Instead of becoming overwhelmed at intimidating health goals, make the effort to set smaller, more achievable ones that can be accomplished one step at a time. Doing so can keep you motivated towards your larger, long-term goals while helping you to live a long and full life.
